It’s Sunday once again, and you know what that means — it’s time for our weekly social media roundup! This week, everyone throughout the country has been inundated with advertisements for Back to School sales, which can only mean one thing: the end of the summer is nigh. With that in mind, as the dog days of summer begin to wind down, the AL playoff races have begun to truly heat up. Despite this, we still have a ton of content to share from the Yankees’ social media teams this week, so let’s get started!

Players’ Weekend 2025

This past weekend marked Players’ Weekend, an annual event begun in 2017, went on hiatus starting in 2020 due to COVID and the switch from Majestic to Nike, and returned last season, in which players get to show off their personality with custom bats, cleats, and, in the past, special uniforms.

As part of this year’s Players’ Weekend, the Yankees’ social media teams centered their posts on the personal lives of the players. We start off with some interviews with players.

Then we have a special edition of Question of the Day, asking the players for the little things in life that make them smile.

We also got some pictures of the Yankee pets — headlined, of course, by Penny and Gus Judge, who can be purchased (in stuffed animal form) at Yankee Stadium starting this week.

And, of course, we got to see some custom gear.

More important than the cool gear and fun facts about our favorite players, though, is learning about the charities and causes near and dear to them. The Yankees took to Instagram to highlight Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s work with youth programs in New York, Miami, and the Bahamas.

NYCFC Visit the Stadium

The other team that calls Yankee Stadium home, the New York City Football Club, visited the Bronx this past Tuesday, as goalkeeper Matt Freese threw out the ceremonial first pitch. As someone who was in attendance…well, he did it from the rubber, I’ll give him that, but he should definitely stick to his current profession — pitching is certainly not in his wheelhouse.

Ottavino’s Visit to the Stadium

Also visiting the Stadium this week was Adam Ottavino, who used his Golden Ticket — a lifetime pass to every Major League stadium given to every player with at least eight years of service time (and front office execs and coaches with at least 25 years). While this isn’t unusual in itself, what makes this notable is the fact that Ottavino pitched on this mound just a few short months ago, coming out of the bullpen for the Yankees early in the season.

Goldy’s Return to St. Louis

The Yankees’ visit to St. Louis marked a return home for Paul Goldschmidt, who spent six seasons and won an MVP with the Cardinals. Unsurprisingly, the Cardinals honored him prior to Friday night’s game, even though he was out of the lineup with a knee injury.

Randy and Ichiro

When you think of great Yankees who wore the number 51 in their careers, your mind goes straight to Randy Johnson and Ichiro Suzuki, obviously (hey, I never said they had to wear 51 with the Yankees). All jokes aside, the pair of Hall of Famers reunited in Seattle this week, as the Mariners retired Ichiro’s 51 (which was already retired for Johnson). Now a professional photographer, Johnson shared some photos from the event.

Kay Ranks Chicken

So, uh, just like Austin Wells has been ranking breakfast burritos, Michael Kay — who famously is a very picky eater — has been ranking chicken tenders. You do you, Michael.
