The Pittsburgh Pirates have been making waves lately for the strength of their farm system, as it was just ranked ninth-best in baseball. Among their top prospects is Konnor Griffin, who along with enjoying an incredible first year in professional baseball, was named the top prospect in MLB. Griffin continues to build on his rookie season, as he was just promoted to Double-A Altoona.

News broke on Sunday that the Pirates would be promoting the top prospect in baseball, making it his third stop of 2025. Griffin at just 19-years old is having a meteoric rise through the Minor League ranks, with some saying he could see the Majors as early as next season. MLB.com currently has his projected ETA for the 2027 season.

This year between Bradenton and Greensboro, Griffin has slashed .332/.414/.938. He’s tallied 133 hits to rack up 16 homers, 72 RBIs, and 21 doubles. In addition to his impressive hitting, he also has 59 stolen bases, which ranks eighth in the Minor Leagues.

Since his promotion to Greensboro on June 10th, Griffin was awarded player of the week honors for his output that included an average of .407, with 10 runs scored on 11 hits, 2 homers, and 6 stolen bases. That kind of performance and plenty more also saw Griffin named to the National League Futures team for the All-Star break.

The last position player to be drafted in the first round by the Pirates to be promoted to Double-A as a teenager was Andrew McCutchen back in 2006.

Griffin is slated to make his Double-A debut on August 19th as the Curve take on Reading in game one of their six game home stand.
