ROCHESTER — Lourdes gave a strong showing against Dover-Eyota, scoring nine runs in the first three innings en route to a 10-0 victory during a non-conference matchup.

ALBERT LEA — Mayo held off a late comeback attempt from Albert Lea and picked up a 5-4 win in Big Nine Conference action on Tuesday.

“We literally could not get out of our own way trying to get an out on a ground ball,” Mayo coach Tom Senne said. “It definitely felt like the moon defensively today. The upside, we were able to make pitches when needed to get out of tight situations and score enough runs to win the game.”

Ethan Post went 1-for-2, hitting one homer with two RBIs and one run for the Spartans. On the mound, Kyle Leopold allowed five hits, three runs and one walk across 4 1/3 innings pitched with five strikeouts.

“Bottom of the first, Albert Lea loaded the bases with no one out and Kyle Leopold struck out the next three hitters,” Senne said. “Bottom of the fifth, Albert Lea loaded the bases with one out, Isaac Peterson came into pitch and struck the next two hitters out. We were pretty flat today until Ethan Post hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to tie the game and spark some energy. Kyle and Isaac were very good today. They made pitches and kept our team in the game.”

Mayo advances to 13-6 overall and 10-4 in the Big Nine.

RED WING — A late rally from Red Wing resulted in a loss for Century in Big Nine Conference play on Tuesday.

The Wingers scored one run in the eighth inning to come out on top 9-8.

Owen Kelly went 2-for-5 with one RBI, two doubles and two runs scored for the Panthers. Aiden Yochim went 1-for-3, with one triple, one RBI and two runs while Brady Buchmann was 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run.

“Too many fielding mistakes in the one cost us,” Century coach Todd Stellmaker said. “We hit and pitched well enough to win comfortably, but we had some lapses defensively that put us in a tough spot. We gave up nine runs on the game but only three were earned. Tough to beat any opponent when you give them too many extra outs.”

Century falls to 8-9 overall.
