AREA ROUNDUP

The Washington State baseball program announced a 17-player 2025 signing class Monday, which includes Pullman High School’s Joey Hecker.

A true freshman this year, Hecker stays home after a standout career at Pullman High School. Hecker was the co-MVP of the Greater Spokane League in a season in which he hit .329 with six doubles, a triple, a home run and 19 RBI. He is listed as a 6-foot, 170-pound outfielder and was ranked the No. 30 best prospect in Washington by Prep Baseball Report.

WSU coach Nathan Choate, entering his third year leading Cougar baseball, said the class “addressed several needs highlighted by pitching depth.”

Among those pitchers is left-handed Texas Tech transfer Taber Fast from Chehalis, Wash and Olympia High School.

He did not play last season because of injury, but in the two years prior, struck out 30 through 41 1/3 innings for the Red Raiders.

WSU also added players from Kansas State (right-handed pitcher Scott Rienguette) and USC (outfielder Matt Priest), who did not see the field for their respective Power Four programs.

The Cougs added six players from Washington, four from California, three from Canada, three from Arizona and one from Colorado.
