2 Minute Drill: Why Sox loss to Marlins on Sunday was so painful
This is SportsCenter 52 minute drill. Hi everybody. We are coming to you not long after the Red Sox had *** chance to sweep the Miami Marlins, the last place Marlins wind up blowing *** 9th inning lead and losing. They still take 2 or 3 from the Marlins, but today’s loss was so painful because they had their ace Garrett Crochet on the mound. Anytime he is on the mound, you want to win that game and the bullpen. Really imploded in the 9th inning in this game. They did not go to, uh, Aroldis Chapman, which was expected. They wanted to arrest him. They didn’t want to use him 3 straight days. The reason they didn’t go to Chapman was they had to use him yesterday. They were up 7-1 to the Marlins on Saturday. They wound up pretty much making it *** lot scarier than it needed to be. Chapman was forced to come into the game that way you don’t want to lose him. Uh, use him in the 3rd straight game, so not getting the job done in *** timely tidy fashion on Saturday really cost them on Sunday. Yet the news is still good. However, when you look at the big picture with the Red Sox, Derrek Croucher has never thrown this many innings as *** starting pitcher. Walker Ber hasn’t worked this much in *** long, long time. Brian Bay, we’ve seen him hit the wall in the past, and Dustin May. He’s kind of the wild card here. If he can pitch anywhere near the way he did in his last start in Houston, that’s good news. But the Red Sox still have to get the back end of that bullpen other than Chapman ironed out. They get Justin Slayton back, that would be *** huge bonus. Still *** lot of what ifs on this team, yet here they are in the wild card hunt. Still about 6 weeks left of the season yet to play. Anything can happen. Could be very interesting down the stretch. I’m Duke Christi Leone. That’s *** 2 minute drill.
