CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – The Cleveland Guardians have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Matt Festa from Triple-A Columbus.
In a corresponding roster move, the team has designated veteran pitcher Vince Velasquez for assignment. He did not appear in a game for Cleveland since having his contract selected by Triple-A on Tuesday.
Festa was acquired in a minor trade with the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash considerations on Thursday.
He signed a minor league deal with the Rangers back in February.
This season, Festa has spent the entire season at Triple-A Round Rock, tossing 14.2 scoreless innings in nine relief outings.
The 32-year-old split the 2024 season between the Mets and Rangers, posting a combined record of 6-1 with a 5.70 ERA in 19 appearances.
Festa also previously spent time in Major League Baseball with the Mariners.
He owns a career record of 8-3 with a 4.60 ERA.
