6.2 innings, 1 run, 6 strikeouts, 1 walk.

Messick was fantastic today. Looked like he was making his 167th career start… certainly not his 1st.

Vogt pulled Messick with 2 outs in the 7th to let Gaddis face McCann… which is a nothingburger, I guess. I, personally, would’ve let Messick finish the inning, especially considering McCann hadn’t really hit him that hard in his previous 2 at-bats. I get the LHP/RHB matchup is undesirable, and that, with Marte on deck, you don’t want to risk anything.

There was some nice defense involved in today’s outing, too. Arias made some really nice plays with his arm today. One on the backhalf of a relay to nab a runner at the plate, one to pull off a double play by himself, and another fielding a Ketel Marte ROCKET with ease.

Unfortunately, Messick’s gem was not enough, as the Guardians offense grinded to a halt… again. Wasted multiple opportunities to open the game, Cade gave up a game-tying homer in the ninth, and finally Matt “everyday” Festa giving up the walk-off in the 10th.
