Several of the Seattle Mariners’ top prospects have been promoted over the past couple of months, and two of their youngest who jumped a level most recently got off to strong starts with their new club.

Shortstop Felnin Celesten and right-handed pitcher Ryan Sloan each had impressive showings in their debuts with the High-A Everett AquaSox over the past week, with both teenagers showing why they’re among the youngest players to reach the Northwest League this year.
Celesten started off with a bang in his first game with the AquaSox on Tuesday night. The switch-hitting shortstop blasted a home run from the left side of the plate well past the high wall in right-center field at Funko Field in Everett. The 19 year old finished the evening 1 for 5 at the plate.
Celesten, who MLB Pipeline ranks as Seattle’s No. 9 prospect and No. 96 across baseball, was promoted from the Single-A Modesto Nuts on Monday. He had a team-high 109 hits and slashed .285/.349/.384 with 19 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 55 RBIs, 20 stolen bases, 37 walks and 96 strikeouts in 93 games with the Nuts.
The Mariners are getting their first extended look at Celesten at the pro level this year after injuries limited him after signing as an international free agent in 2023. A hamstring injury kept him from debuting the year he signed, and a wrist surgery ended his campaign after 32 games with the Arizona Complex League Mariners last season.
Sloan, also just 19 years old, continued his stellar first pro season with a strong four-inning debut for Everett on Saturday. The 2024 second-round pick struck out two, walked none and allowed only one run on four hits against the Hillsboro Hops. It was the eighth time in his past nine starts that he has allowed one or fewer earned runs.
Sloan, the Mariners’ No. 5 prospect and No. 42 overall, earned his promotion after impressive eight-start stretch with Modesto, posting a 1.58 ERA with 34 strikeouts to just six walks over 34 innings. In total, he went went 2-2 with a 3.44 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 77 strikeouts and 15 walks over 70 2/3 innings in 18 starts for the Nuts.
Celesten and Sloan are two of nine Mariners prospects ranked in Pipeline’s top 100, which is the most in the league.
