KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A day after the Rangers bullpen did heavy lifting in a come-from-behind win, they got some reinforcement.

Right-hander Jacob Webb, who had missed the last three weeks with back spasms, was activated from the 15-day IL on Thursday. He replaces Wednesday’s emergency starter Caleb Boushley, who was optioned back to Triple-A Round Rock.

Boushley allowed a three-run homer three batters into the game, but steadied himself to get through a second trip through the Kansas City lineup without allowing a run. The bullpen trio of Jake Latz, Shawn Armstrong and Hoby Milner combined to pitch six shutout innings behind him in the Rangers’ 6-3 win.

Webb, 31, had been one of the bullpen’s workhorses before the back problem. Even with the three-week absence, he is still fourth on the time in appearances with 42. He has pitched 48 innings with a 3.75 ERA this season, but did have a two-week rough patch ahead of his IL assignment. Webb returns to the roster 8 2/3 innings shy of his career high, set last year with Baltimore.

Webb made three rehab outings with Triple-A Round Rock, most recently on Tuesday.

The Rangers could also be closing in on getting right-hander Chris Martin back. Martin (left calf strain) is expected to throw a live batting practice session on Saturday and could begin a rehab assignment shortly thereafter.
