DENVER — The Los Angeles Dodgers secured a much-needed series split against the Colorado Rockies by a final score of 9-5, led by the likes of Clayton Kershaw on the mound and a quality display of offensive production at the plate.Â
Despite having a rough sixth inning, Kershaw had yet another consistent outing on the mound. His final line score was 5.2 innings pitched, allowing three earned runs on six hits and three strikeouts.Â
Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman started the offense early for the Dodgers after a leadoff walk to start the game for Mookie Betts, as he slashed a first-pitch two-run home run that traveled 451 feet to center field. An Andy Pages’ double and Alex Call’s walk set the table for Miguel Rojas to hit a perfect bunt single that extended the Los Angeles lead 3-1.Â
Later in the inning, the bases would be loaded for Will Smith, and he was awarded a free base and added another run to the Dodgers’ lead after being hit by a pitch.Â
Alex Freeland had himself a day at the plate, and it started in the top of the third, leading off the inning with a triple. By the end of the game, Freeland went 3-5 (2B, 3B, RBI, R). Call would also continue to make his mark at Coors, slashing an RBI single to extend the lead 5-1.Â
Michael Conforto hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth, and Freeland would hit his second extra base hit, an RBI double, and secure a toppling lead over Colorado, 7-1. Pages and Will Smith would provide some late offensive fireworks as Pages would smash his 21st home run and Smith would hit an RBI single in the eighth to secure the Dodgers’ scoring, 9-5.Â
On the Colorado side, Brenton Doyle was the main source of offense for the Rockies, going 2-3, with a home run and four RBIs.Â
With this win, the Dodgers are 73-55 and have just a one-game lead over the San Diego Padres heading into a crucial weekend series against the Friars. The Dodgers are sending out their 1-2-3 starters in their rotation, which has Blake Snell on Friday, Tyler Glasnow on Saturday, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto to close the series off on Sunday.Â
