MLB:

The St. Louis Cardinals dropped game two of a three-game series in Tampa, Friday night, losing 10-6 to the Rays. Starting pitcher Miles Mikolas falls to 6-10 on the season. The teams take a rare Saturday off, before finishing the series on Sunday.

Elsewhere in the National League Central, the Brewers beat the Giants 5-4. The Cubs got past the Angels 3-2. The Reds lost to the Diamondbacks 6-5, and the Pirates blanked the Rockies, 9-0.

In American League play, the Chicago White Sox fell 9-7 to the Twins.

HS sports:

Several Riverbend area high school football teams held scrimmages on Friday. There are at least two scheduled for Saturday: Roxana plays at Staunton and Marquette’s annual blue/gray game will be at Public School Stadium.

Also happening Saturday is the Andy Simpson girls tennis doubles tournament. Twelve schools are participating at three sites: Alton, Civic Memorial, Roxana, Jerseyville, Father McGivney, Collinsville, Highland, Mascoutah, Jacksonville, Greenville, Rochester, and Quincy Notre-Dame.
