The Detroit Tigers have maintained the best record in the American League and are tied with the New York Mets for the best record in MLB heading toward the All-Star Break, which is scheduled for July 15th in Atlanta.

The Tigers’ pitching staff, fielding and batting order have been equally impressive this season under manager AJ Hinch, with Detroit on the verge of its best season in over a decade.

On Wednesday, the Tigers got a vote of confidence from one of Major League Baseball’s top pitchers during his time, Pedro Martinez, who shared his thoughts on a potential Tigers World Series run and who Detroit might face should they make it to MLB’s Fall Classic this season.

“Prediction: I have the Tigers going to the World Series against the Padres #mlbontbs,” Martinez wrote on Wednesday in a post seen over 78,000 times.

“I hope you’re right,” one fan said after Martinez’s crystal ball pick.

“1984 over again, I’m here for that,” another added about Detroit’s last World Series winning season.

“Don’t do that to me Pedro! I’m from Detroit living in San Diego,” another added.

“C’mon Pedro, say it ain’t so,” another added. “Mets World Series.”

The Tigers and Padres met last month with Detroit taking two of three games at Comerica Park, a series that spearheaded the Tigers’ resurgence from middle-of-the-pack to potential World Series contender, as it moved them to 15-10 on the season at the time.

The Tigers’ young core tasted playoff action last season. Now, they appear ready to make what could be their longest run since the days of Justin Verlander and Miguel Cabrera.
