The White Sox evened the series with the Twins thanks to smart pitching and this young kid named Colson Montgomery. The rookie is so bright that James Outman probably wishes he had shades.
The first inning started similarly for both teams, with a single and a double play to end each frame. Kody Clemens put the Twins on the board with a solo homer in the second. The White Sox had back-to-back singles thanks to Andrew Benintendi and Luis Robert Jr., then Chase Meidroth would tie it up with a one-out RBI single.
Kyle Teel picked up a walk to load the bases with two outs, prompting a mound visit for Minnesota. Mick Abel went to battle against Miguel Vargas and lost, walking in a run for the White Sox to take the lead. Colson Montgomery, who singled in the first inning, decided to give the Twins some hell. Let’s take a look at the video. (Lenyn Sosa would end the inning, but the damage was already done.)
Davis Martin had a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts.
Thanks to the struggles of James Outman, Benintendi singled once more, but was out at second on a fielder’s choice, as Robert beat the throw and avoid a double play. He would ultimately be left on base.
Matt Wallner hit a solo homer in the top of the fourth, making it 6-2. Brooks Lee singled with two outs, and was picked off by Martin to end the inning. The Twins already had tapped their bullpen by the bottom of the fourth, turning the ball over to Thomas Hatch, who was mostly successful, only giving up one hit.
Martin started to struggle in the fifth, giving up a single and a hit-by-pitch with only one out. He managed to escape the jam with a strikeout and a fly ball. The White Sox stayed silent as Hatch struck out the side.
Tyler Alexander was out to pitch for the sixth and only gave up a single. Brooks Baldwin singled in the bottom of the frame, but the White Sox couldn’t capitalize. Royce Lewis hit a solo homer in the top of the seventh, bringing the score a bit closer at 6-3. The White Sox were retired in order in the seventh. Robert added a welcome insurance run with a two-out solo homer in an otherwise quiet eighth for both teams.
Jordan Leasure started the ninth with a walk, but managed two strikeouts flanking a ground out, giving the Good Guys a win.
