Frankfort enters the postseason as the No. 1 seed after a strong season, capped off with a sweep of Valley Heights last Friday.
The Wildcats downed the Mustangs (4-20) with 11-0 and 19-4 wins to finish the regular season with a 17-3 record.
In Game 1, Ty Smith’s 4-for-4 game with a home run, coupled with another long ball by Wes Anderson, sent the Wildcats on their way to a 11-0 victory in five innings. The duo that bats first and second combined for five RBI. Anderson recorded a one-hitter on the mound, striking out 10 batters across all five shutout innings.
In Game 2, Valley Heights responded with a 3-2 lead after the first inning, and continued to stay in the contest until a 14-run sixth inning allowed Frankfort to win 19-4. Smith finished the day with another big game, picking up four more RBI with two hits.
Frankfort will face the winner of a play-in game versus No. 8 seed Valley Heights (4-20) and No. 9 seed Blue Valley. Both of those games happened in Frankfort on Wednesday after press time.
Rock Creek
The Mustangs (19-6) recorded a split at the Andover Central Showdown over the weekend, falling 4-2 against Andover High before downing Andover Central 4-1. Then on Tuesday, Rock Creek responded with a dominant sweep of Tonganoxie on Tuesday.
A 10-4 win opened the doubleheader with a strong performance by Ryker Zoeller on the mound. Across six innings, the senior struck out 11 batters while allowing eight hits and four runs.
Offensively, Jordy Scott led the way with a three-hit game, slugging two doubles and two RBI with a run scored. Landon Snyder, Wyatt Wells, Donavan Debita and Peter Martinie each collected two hits as well.
In Game 2, Brock Lubbers led the way to a 7-4 win after tossing six strong on the mound, allowing just three hits and two runs (none earned) while fanning seven batters.
Lubbers also went 2-for-2 with three RBI and a walk at the plate. Joining him with a strong performance offensively was Debita, who went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk.
With no more contests left on the regular season schedule, Rock Creek is currently fourth in 4A East ahead of the postseason, where it aims to repeat as state champions.
Wamego
The Red Raiders (12-9) finished the regular season with a sweep of Chapman on Tuesday.
In Game 1, Wamego used 11 hits and a strong pitching performance from Macoy Moody to outlast the Irish 8-6. Moody tossed 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on three hits, three walks and nine strikeouts.
In Game 2, a similar storyline emerged as the Red Raiders walked away with an 8-4 win, with Jacob Derouchey turning in a strong start, followed by a dominant relief appearance by Kaden Kearn.
Derouchey tossed the first four innings, allowing five hits, four runs (two earned) and four walks with six strikeouts. Learn shut the door out of the bullpen, tossing three no-hit innings with five strikeouts, allowing the offense to plate four runs in the sixth and secure the sweep.
Wamego is currently eighth in 4A East after its regular season finale. Regional play starts on May 19.
Wabaunsee
The Chargers (12-13) finished the regular season on a high note, sweeping Lyndon with 12-2 and 14-8 wins on Thursday last week.
No. 6-seeded Wabaunsee (12-13) faced regional host and No. 3 seed Rossville (15-7) at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, after press time. The winner faces the victor of No. 2 Eskridge-Mission Valley (18-6) and No. 7 Jackson Heights (6-14) on May 19.
Riley County
The Falcons (10-16) enter postseason play with the momentum of a sweep of Holton on Thursday last week, winning 12-5 and 11-9 at home.
In Class 3A, No. 6 Riley County will face No. 3 Southeast of Saline (14-6) on Friday in Silver Lake. The winner takes on No. 2 Silver Lake (18-6) and No. 7 Hillsboro/Peabody-Burns (7-16) on May 21 in Silver Lake.
Class 3A state will be held in Manhattan at Tointon Family Stadium on May 29.
Blue Valley
No. 9 seed Blue Valley (3-15) saw a play-in game versus Valley Heights on Wednesday in Frankfort.
