He finished it with a fitting poignant-yet-humorous story of Uecker.

Yount, the final person to talk during the ceremony, started talking with his microphone turned upside down, of which he cracked “Bob taught me that.”

After some short comments about Uecker, who famously called his 3,000th career hit and all 20 seasons of his playing career, Yount told the story of what Uecker said to him toward the end of his life.

“I’m not afraid of dying,” Yount recalled Uecker telling him. “I just don’t want to be there when it happens.”

With that, the crowd came to its feet and the on-stage portion of the ceremony concluded, leading into Bob Uecker Jr. throwing the first pitch out to Yount with the team on the field behind him.
