Sean Barnard gives his top DraftKings MLB Pick6 plays and projections for today’s MLB slate.
Including today, just six Sundays are remaining in the MLB regular season. The final playoff push is on, with every game holding some additional weight and roughly 35 games remaining on each team’s schedule. Fifteen games of action are taking place across the league today. The Pittsburgh Pirates host the Colorado Rockies to kick off the day, building out to the Sunday Night Baseball matchup between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. There are plenty of ways of getting involved in the action. One of the more unique ways is with one of the newest features on DraftKings this year in Pick6 Fantasy Baseball!
This article will look at my top Pick6 plays for today’s action. You simply choose whether each set statistic will be more or less than the set number. With the stage set, here are my favorite picks on today’s MLB slate.
Francisco Lindor More Than 1.5 Hits, Runs & RBIs
Bryce Elder will be getting the start for the Braves today as they face off with their NL East foe the New York Mets. It has been a tough season for the 26-year-old. Elder is posting a 5-9 record and a 6.29 ERA on the season. He has allowed 131 hits, 19 home runs, and struck out just 90 across his 111.2 innings pitched.
Francisco Lindor has had great success against Elder in their careers. To this point, Lindor is 6-for-10 against Elder with two home runs, four RBIs, a double and three walks. Lindor has not been struck out in any of his 13 plate appearances and is posting just a 5.6% whiff rate in this matchup. The Mets star also enters this matchup seeing the ball well in general. He is looking to extend an 11-game hit streak and has tallied 23 total hits across this recent stretch. Lindor has recorded more than 1.5 combined hits, runs and RBIs in all 11 of these games, so look for the Mets’ star to extend this streak in the favorable matchup.

Jo Adell More Than 0.5 Runs Batted In
It has been a strong season for Jo Adell, with him making the most of his expanded opportunity and more consistent playing time. The 26-year-old has already tallied a career-high in plate appearances on the season and is producing at the highest rate of his career. The right-hander is slashing .236/.299/.486 with a .784 OPS, which are each career-high marks for Adell. He is up to 29 home runs, 79 RBIs and 15 doubles on the season.
This is a great opportunity to add to his strong output with Jameson Taillon on the mound for the Cubs. He is averaging just shy of two home runs per nine innings on the season, with this jumping to 2.33 against right-handed hitters. Taillon has given up 48 earned runs and 22 home runs this season, with 12 of the homers coming against this side of the plate.
Adell has tallied 23 of his 29 home runs against right-handed pitchers this season with a .454 slugging percentage in these matchups. He is also posting an average exit velocity of 100.7 miles per hour across his past five games. This is about 11 miles per hour faster than his season average. The wind will be blowing out in the matchup, with it expected to reach around 10 miles per hour. With favorable conditions, a solid matchup and Adell performing at a high level, look for the production to continue today. While a home run feels entirely in play, I am opting to be a bit safer and back Adell to add to his 79 RBIs tonight.

Logan Gilbert More Than 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed
Logan Gilbert has emerged as one of the brightest young pitching talents in the league for the Mariners in recent seasons. He led the entire MLB with 33 starts and 208.2 innings pitched last season, posting a 3.23 ERA and striking out 220 in the process. But Gilbert has thrown just 91.2 innings pitched this season and is posting a 3-5 record, 3.83 ERA and 125 strikeouts.
He will face off with an Athletics team that ranks seventh in batting average, fourth in slugging percentage and seventh in OPS this season. They have tallied the sixth-most home runs, rank 11th in RBIs, third in total bases and third in hits overall. Gilbert made his first start of the season against the Athletics and carved them up for 7.0 innings with just two hits and one earned run allowed.
But the 28-year-old has hit some recent turmoil and is coming off his worst start of the season. He was chased from his previous start against the Phillies in just 2.0 innings after giving up nine hits and six earned runs. Gilbert has also allowed more than 1.5 earned runs in four of his past five starts and 10 of the 18 on the season. There is no reason to have significant panic about Gilbert’s outlook, but this is a tough matchup and a low bar to remain under. Expect him to allow more than 1.5 earned runs for the third straight game and the ninth time in his past 13 starts as he faces off with a solid Athletics lineup today.

Noelvi Marte More Than 0.5 Runs Batted In
The Cincinnati Reds will face off with the Arizona Diamondbacks with Zac Gallen on the mound. Gallen is posting a career-worst 5.28 ERA on the season with a 9-13 record and 26 home runs allowed. He has especially struggled against right-handed hitters, with 15 of the home runs coming against this side of the plate, which comes out to 1.72 HRs per nine innings and a .433 slugging against righties.
This is a great chance for Noelvi Marte to continue adding to his production. He is amid a breakout season for the Reds, slashing .298/.336/.512 with a .848 OPS this season. All 10 of Marte’s home runs have come against right-handed pitching, and he is posting a .606 slugging percentage and .290 ISO in these matchups.
While the 40 total RBIs logged on the season don’t pop off the page, Marte has 12 over his past 13 games. With blazing hot temperatures in Arizona and a friendly pitching matchup, expect the runs to be coming at a regular rate and for the 23-year-old to get in on the action. Count on him to add to his strong production at the plate and drive home a run tonight.

Dustin May More Than 4.5 Hits Allowed
In the Sunday Night Baseball Matchup, the Boston Red Sox will be facing off with the New York Yankees. After starting the season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Dustin May was traded to the Red Sox to help with their postseason aspirations. Tonight will mark May’s fourth start with the Red Sox. Through the opening three games, he is posting a 1-2 record, 2.87 ERA, and he has given up 19 hits across his 15.2 innings pitched. On the season overall, May is posting a 4.59 ERA with 116 hits allowed across 119.2 innings pitched.
The Yankees enter with one of the more intimidating lineups in the MLB. They lead the league in total bases and home runs while ranking third in total runs tallied. May has given up more than 4.5 hits in all three starts with the Red Sox, six straight starts entering today and in 17 of the 22 games he has pitched this season overall. New York is not the type of lineup that will make these problems easier, and expect him to be vulnerable to giving up some hits tonight. This bar of expectation is too low based on his recent track record, and I expect May to allow more than 4.5 hits in his first taste of the rivalry matchup.

Carlos Rodon More Than 6.5 Strikeouts Thrown
On the other side of the pitching matchup, Carlos Rodon will be on the mound for the Yankees. The 32-year-old is making his 27th start of the season and enters with a 3.24 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with just 103 hits allowed and 169 strikeouts across his first 152.2 innings pitched. His 10.0 strikeouts per nine innings is tied for 11th in the MLB this season.
While Boston holds a respectable offense in its own right, it has also proven vulnerable to striking out. The Red Sox have tallied the fifth-most collective strikeouts on the season among MLB teams. Trevor Story and Jarren Duran have combined for 281 strikeouts by themselves.
Rodon has fallen short of 6.5 strikeouts in his past three starts, but he has surpassed this in three of the four games before that. He has tallied more than 6.5 strikeouts in 14 of the 26 starts this year overall. Rodon is plenty familiar with the stakes of this rivalry matchup and is averaging 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings across the 11 starts he has made against Boston. He has tallied more than 6.5 strikeouts in six of his 11 starts against the Red Sox in his Yankees career. With strikeouts a concern for this Boston team and Rodon performing at a high level, look for him to mow down at least seven hitters tonight and be prepared to put on a show in the rivalry matchup.
