It was a tough afternoon for the Kansas State Wildcats after Saturday’s loss to the Iowa State Cyclones in Dublin.

And nearly halfway around the globe, a Kansas City Royals minor-league affiliate threw salt in the wound.

The Omaha Storm Chasers — the Royals’ Triple-A affiliate — had an offensive field day in their road game against the Columbus Clippers. The Storm Chasers scored 23 runs and hit 10 home runs in the contest.

It was more points than the Wildcats scored in their 24-21 season-opening loss. So naturally, a social media post tagging the K-State football team was deemed worth it.

“Scored more than @KStateFB today,” the Storm Chasers’ account wrote on X.

Here is how the Storm Chasers fared:

There were seven different players who hit homers on Saturday. Storm Chasers vets MJ Melendez, Drew Waters and Harold Castro each hit a pair of homers. Jac Caglianone, Michael Massey, Isan Diaz and Bobby Dalbec also went deep.

It was more than enough run support as Omaha earned a 23-7 victory on the road. The Clippers allowed the most runs in franchise history in the loss.

The Storm Chasers scored in seven of the nine innings. The offense exploded with a seven-run sixth inning. In that frame, Waters, Diaz and Melendez all homered.

Omaha tallied 24 hits in the victory. Waters finished 3-for-5 with six RBIs while Castro added five RBIs.

Every starter had a hit. Melendez and Castro each had four hits to lead the way in Saturday’s outburst.
