After a relatively easy win on Friday night to start the series in Atlanta, the Mets had themselves a second straight decisive victory against the Braves. Clay Holmes started and followed Nolan McLean’s example by actually pitching into the seventh, surrendering just two runs in 6 1/3 innings of work. If that weren’t enough, the bats slugged six home runs—including two from both Mark Vientos and Jeff McNeil—and the defense made several sterling plays. The 9-2 win put the Mets at two and a half games ahead for the final wild card spot in the National League.
As of right now, the Mets do not plan on inserting Brandon Sproat into the rotation. Kodai Senga will pitch on Monday on four days rest. However, according to reports, Jonah Tong’s name is “entering the conversation” for this season as he continues to dominate in Triple-A Syracuse.
However, Tylor Megill is one step closer to a return, though Carlos Mendoza would not say whether Megill is going to make another start for Syracuse.
There is still a lot of season left and still a lot of the story of Juan Soto’s first season with the Mets to be told, writes Mike Lupica of MLB.com.
