GRAND ISLAND – The hits came Saturday for Norfolk softball but the runs didn’t as the Panthers fell to Grand Island 4-1 at Veteran’s Field Softball Complex.

Norfolk’s lone run of the game came via an Islander error in the top of the fourth inning before Grand Island took the lead at 3-1 in the bottom of the inning via a two-RBI triple by Madisyn Hostetler and an RBI single from Avery Hawke.

Rory Vrbsky led things off for Norfolk in the pitchers circle, surrendering four runs and six hits with two walks and nine strikeouts in six innings of work.

Paislee Welty earned the win for the Islanders after allowing an unearned run while scattering eight hits with a walk and a strikeout in the complete game effort.

Freshman Liberty Nohr had another strong game at the plate for Norfolk, leading the Panthers with two hits in the contest.

Norfolk returns to the diamond Tuesday for a home doubleheader with Lincoln Northeast starting at 5.
