LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers announced a roster move Monday ahead of their three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds at Dodger Stadium, reactivating utilityman Kiké Hernández from the injured list and designating infielder Buddy Kennedy for assignment.
Hernández, who had been sidelined with elbow inflammation, is not in Monday night’s starting lineup but will be available off the bench to pinch hit if needed. He completed a brief rehab stint with Triple-A Oklahoma City over the weekend, appearing in several games to get back into game shape.
The 34-year-old veteran brings a spark of versatility and energy back to the Dodgers’ roster. Known for his ability to play multiple positions and deliver in clutch moments, Hernández’s return is a timely boost as Los Angeles enters a key stretch in the National League playoff race.
Before the injury, Hernández had been posting a modest .195 average with eight home runs and 22 RBIs in a part-time role, but his value has always extended beyond the stat sheet. His ability to play anywhere, deliver in the clutch, and step into pressure-packed postseason moments makes him an important piece.
Kennedy, who was added to the roster earlier this month, saw limited action with the club, going 1-for-17 with the Dodgers. The Dodgers will try to build momentum as they return home to start a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds
