Trevor Bauer went to Japan hoping to revive his career. Instead, he might have closed any slim chance of his return to MLB.

The 34-year-old right-hander gave up what has been claimed to be a 594-foot home run in a game in NPB against the Hiroshima Carp.

Notably, Bauer has been out of MLB since 2023 after he was found guilty of violating MLB’s domestic violence and sexual assault policy.

He was demoted to the BayStars’ minor league squad late in June after an incident when he reportedly shouted at his pitching coach and stormed off the dugout. He wasn’t eligible for a call-up until July 9. However, his return to NPB turned out to be a disaster.

Bauer had returned to Japan to pitch for the Yokohama BayStars after a year in the Mexican League. But back in the NPB, things haven’t gone according to plan.

Through 112.1 innings this season, Bauer has a 4.17 ERA, which is the highest among starters in the Central League. For context, no other starter in the league currently has an ERA above 3.60.

To make matters worse, his ERA is 142, just two points away from the worst mark ever by a foreign pitcher in NPB history.

However, not all is going badly for the former Dodgers pitcher. While his ERA is on the higher side, he still leads the Central League in strikeouts this season.
