The Red Sox won Monday’s series opener thanks in large part to a 3-run fifth inning home run from Jarren Duran that gave the squad a 4-3 lead that proved to be the final score. Along with Duran, fellow outfielder Roman Anthony also went deep in Monday’s matchup, blasting a lead-off home run to open the scoring in the first inning.
Boston is now 72-60, but still five games behind the Toronto Blue Jays atop the AL East, and only half a game up on the New York Yankees for the top Wild Card spot.
On Tuesday, the Red Sox turn to Lucas Giolito after using an opener and relying heavily on the bullpen on Monday. Giolito is 8-2 with a 3.72 ERA over 111.1 innings this season.
