Lou Trivino has an opportunity to pitch for his hometown team.

Trivino was one of the Philadelphia Phillies‘ Tuesday call-ups from the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, where the right-handed reliever had thrown seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts in six appearances since signing as a minor league free agent on Aug. 4.

He didn’t get a chance to pitch in front of friends and family in Philadelphia as a pro until the 2022 season-opening series with the Athletics, which he enjoyed.

Originally from West Rockhill Township, the 6-foot-5, 232-pound Trivino was a baseball standout for Pennridge Legion and the Quakertown Blazers of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League. He graduated from Upper Bucks Christian School.

Trivino, 33, is the former Athletics closer, highlighted by 22 saves in 2021. He has appeared in five playoff games, including his 2018 debut in which he shut out the New York Yankees over three innings in a wild card game. He also pitched for the Yankees in 2022 after going to New York in a mid-season trade from the A’s.

An 11th-round pick by the A’s out of Slippery Rock, Trivino went a combined 3-1 with a 4.42 ERA this season for the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers.
