The Los Angeles Dodgers have re-gained sole possession of first place.

The San Diego Padres wiped out the deficit they faced against the Dodgers earlier in the year, moved into first place briefly in the National League West Division, and the teams were tied going into action Monday night. However, the Dodgers beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-0 Monday night, and the Padres lost 9-6 at Seattle.

Andy Pages homered twice, and Freddie Freeman homered once for the Dodgers Monday. Three Dodgers pitchers combined on a four-hitter. Starter Emmet Sheehan (5-2) allowed two hits over seven innings and earned the win.

In the American League Central, the Detroit Tigers had built their first-place margin back to double digits, 10.5 over the second-place Kansas City Royals, at press time.     Â
