West Sacramento, Calif. – It’s time.

Tigers manager AJ Hinch announced before the game against the A’s Tuesday that center fielder Parker Meadows, out since May 28 with a right quad strain, will begin a rehab assignment Wednesday at Triple-A Toledo.

“He will have a schedule and we’re going to go day-to-day to see how much activity he has and how much he can handle,” Hinch said. “Which is good. We need him out there playing the field and we need him running around freely.”

Hinch said Meadows passed his final, full-speed running test on Tuesday with flying colors.

“He had a great test today,” he said. “He’s ready to go.”

Meadows, who started the season on the injured list with a nerve issue in his right arm, has been limited to 38 games this season.

Other medical updates:

▶ Veteran reliever Paul Sewald (shoulder) completed his second bullpen session on Tuesday as he gradually builds toward a rehab assignment.

▶ Right-hander Jason Foley, who is out for the season after undergoing an arthroscopic procedure on his shoulder, initiated a throwing progression on Monday. It’s the first time he’s thrown since he threw two scoreless innings with Toledo on April 12. He won’t return this season but this sets him up to have a regular offseason and be in position to compete for a bullpen role next spring.

▶ Right-hander Reese Olson (shoulder) is still not cleared to start throwing.

▶ Right-hander Dylan Smith (shoulder) is scheduled to continue his rehab assignment Wednesday at High-A West Michigan.
