As outstanding as the Milwaukee Brewers have been in August (18-6 record) an argument can be made that their second baseman Brice Turang has been even better than that.
These were his stats for the month going into the Aug. 26 game against the Diamondbacks:
Turang continued his tear, hitting his ninth home run of the month in the Brewers’ 9-8 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks Aug 26. And he’s not just swinging for the fences. He’s hit .315 since the all-star break and .349 this month. He’s also slugging .733 in August with a 1.124 OPS.

Talk about a power surge.
It appeared Turang’s homer would be the knockout blow when it put the Brewers up 8-3 in the sixth inning, but the Diamondbacks rallied to tie the game before the Brewers loaded the bases with nobody out in the ninth and Isaac Collins’ rescued the Brewers after a weary bullpen bent more than once, but didn’t break.
But back to Turang, whose bat suddenly has Kyle Schwarber-like thunder. He had six home runs this year before the month started. He now has 15. Last year he had seven.
Turang is a top candidate for August player of the month in the National League and Brewers fans have already begun to vote:
