Zach Thompson gives his top studs and value plays for today’s fantasy baseball slate on DraftKings, which starts at 7:07 p.m. ET.
Major League Baseball has a few games on Wednesday afternoon, but most of the action is on tap for under the lights, leaving a juicy, 10-game slate available for mid-week MLB DFS action. The first pitch is on the schedule for 7:07 p.m. ET in Toronto, which is when contests will lock. From the 20 teams in the player pool, some very interesting plays stand out at a variety of price points, so let’s dive in and take a look at my top MLB DFS picks for Wednesday night.
Overall, the weather forecast is clean and bright for this evening. Winds are blowing out in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Sacramento, which could give offenses in those spots a little extra boost. Be sure to double-check the forecast and starting lineups for any updates before game time.

PITCHERS
Stud
Nolan McLean, New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies, $9,000: McLean has been outstanding in his two starts for the Mets, earning 28.4 fantasy points in his MLB debut against the Mariners and following it up with 26.75 fantasy points in seven strong innings last Friday. The 24-year-old prospect has allowed just two runs on six hits over 12 1/3 innings while picking up 15 strikeouts.
In Triple-A, McLean went 8-5 with a 2.45 ERA and 3.67 FIP along with 127 strikeouts in 113 2/3 innings for the Syracuse Mets. MLB Pipeline ranked him as the No. 37 prospect in baseball and the No. 3 prospect in the Mets’ system. He has solid velocity at 94-96 miles per hour, but can reach back for up to 98 in certain spots. He also features a devastating sweeper with elite spin and horizontal movement.
Nolan McLean in his MLB Debut:
5.1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 4 BB, 8 K
11 Whiffs
29 Whiff%
31% CSW%
He averaged an absurd 2994 RPMs on his Sweeper (Max—3310) and 3279 on his CB (Max—3383). There are not many pitchers in baseball who are able to do this.#LGM pic.twitter.com/vwCBLZVcku

He has a tough matchup against the Phillies, but he offers an elite ceiling and has shown that he can dominate. The Mets have great momentum coming into this matchup after Tuesday night’s walk-off, and they will look to close out a three-game home sweep of Philly with their promising youngster on the mound.
Value
Luis Morales, Athletics vs. Detroit Tigers, $7,000: Another young starting pitcher option who has shown promise in his first taste of the majors is Luis Morales. The 22-year-old righty went 7-3 in 23 games split between Double-A and Triple-A, compiling a 3.73 ERA, 4.07 FIP and 10.8 K/9. While he doesn’t have the elite prospect pedigree of McLean, MLB Pipeline did rank him as the team’s No. 4 prospect.
Morales makes for a great value starting pitcher for your MLB DFS picks at only $7,000 after earning 19.04 and 22.3 fantasy points in his last two starts against the Angels and Mariners, respectively. He gave up just one earned run in each of those two outings and had 11 strikeouts in 11 innings. He builds his arsenal around his fastball that can touch 99 miles per hour, so he brings a high strikeout ceiling and is a strong option to consider at this salary on Wednesday night.
INFIELD
Stud
Bobby Witt Jr., Kansas City Royals at Chicago White Sox, $5,700: Witt carries a 15-game hitting streak into Wednesday’s matchup with Aaron Civale ($6,000) and the White Sox, as he continues to try to keep his Royals in the race for an AL Wild Card spot. He’s hitting .296 for the season with 19 homers and 34 stolen bases, but he has been even more productive during his current surge.
Over his last 15 games, he has gone 17-for-59 (.390) with four doubles and two homers while adding four stolen bases to a .429 wOBA. Over those 15 games, Witt has produced 11.1 fantasy points per contest and remains a great pay-up play at shortstop due to both his high ceiling and his high floor. He’s 6-for-23 (.261) in his career against Civale, who has given up 16 runs in 14 1/3 innings over his last three starts.
Stud
Pete Alonso, New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies, $5,100: Alonso went 4-for-5 with 20 fantasy points in Tuesday’s walk-off win. He’s hitting .286 in August with seven homers, a .374 wOBA and 24 RBI in 23 games.
Alonso’s averaging 7.3 fantasy points in his last 10 games and 9.4 fantasy points in his eight games against the Phillies. He has also gone 5-for-18 with three homers in his past matchups with Taijuan Walker ($6,800), who starts on Wednesday for Philadelphia.
Value
Jared Triolo, Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals, $2,700: I highlighted Triolo’s recent surge in my value picks for Tuesday, and he came through with two more hits and eight fantasy points in the Pirates’ 8-3 victory. He is eligible at both spots on the left side of the infield, meaning he can slot next to Witt or slide to fill shortstop with a cheap option, if you are paying up in other places. He has been extremely productive lately for the Pirates and has even hit leadoff several times, including on Tuesday.
Triolo has two hits in five straight games and is 10-for-19 (.526) with a double, a triple, two homers and a .646 wOBA. Over his last 20 games, he’s hitting .358 with a .421 wOBA, and he should continue to be in a good spot to contribute, especially if he’s at the top of the lineup again as his Pirates take on Sonny Gray ($9,500) on Wednesday night.
OUTFIELD
Stud
Corbin Carroll, Arizona Diamondbacks at Milwaukee Brewers, $5,900: Carroll has posted double-digit fantasy points in five straight and six of his last seven games. He has a 13-game hitting streak coming into Wednesday night’s matchup and is 17-for-51 (.333) over that span with four doubles, two triples, a home run and a .417 wOBA. He also has a 51.4% hard hit rate during in his last 13 contests, which is a slight bump up from his 50.6% hard hit rate during the whole season.
He’ll go up against Quinn Priester ($8,700), who is having a breakthrough campaign for the Brewers, but has staggered a little bit lately. He has a 6.27 FIP over his last five starts, with a FIP over 5.00 in every one of those outings. Carroll’s high ceiling and consistent production make him a strong pay-up play to build around Wednesday in our MLB DFS picks.
Stud
George Springer, Toronto Blue Jays vs. Minnesota Twins, $5,000: Springer and the Blue Jays take on Simeon Woods-Richardson ($6,500), who will be coming off the injured list for his first start since July 28. Woods-Richardson had a 5.30 ERA, 5.79 FIP and a 1.57 WHIP in his eight road games.
Springer comes into the matchup scorching hot after going 16-for-42 (.381) since coming off the injured list, with a double and six homers for a .528 wOBA with a 47.2% hard hit rate. Springer has averaged 15.6 fantasy points per game over those 10 contests and an impressive 10.0 fantasy points per game for the whole year in his 55 home games.
Value
Joc Pederson, Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels, $2,400: The Rangers and Angels wrap up their series at Globe Life Field on Wednesday, and Pederson will likely be back in the lineup after getting Tuesday off against a lefty. Over his last six games, Pederson has gone 7-for-22 (.318) with a double and a pair of home runs. He’s had a brutal season overall, hitting .166 with a .270 wOBA, but he has been much better in the second half, hitting .231 with a .326 wOBA.
Pederson also stands out as a good bargain play in today’s MLB DFS picks since he’ll be facing Angels’ starter Jack Kochanowicz ($5,800), who has let lefties hit .307 with 15 homers and a .386 wOBA against him this season.
