The Diamondbacks made roster moves involving their pitching staff prior to their game against the Brewers on Wednesday, Aug. 27, calling up right-hander Taylor Rashi from Triple-A Reno after sending RHP Juan Morillo to Reno after Tuesday’s game.
The club also designated infielder Tristin English for assignment. English made his major league debut earlier this season for the Diamondbacks and appeared in seven games.
Morillo loaded the bases with a bit and two walks in the bottom of the ninth inning of Arizona’s 9-8 loss to the Brewers, which Milwaukee won in walk-off fashion.
“He’s got a few things to work on, he’s getting pretty close,” Lovullo said of Morillo, who has been up and down between the majors and Reno this season. “He’s still cutting his teeth, he’s still figuring out exactly who he is and his strengths and some of the limitations he needs to work on.”
Rashi, who has yet to pitch in the majors, will step into a bullpen role.
In more pitching news, reliever Ryan Thompson told Lovullo he felt awkward getting ready for his rehab outing in Reno, but worked through it and delivered a scoreless, one-hit inning after a couple of erratic pitches. Thompson’s next date to throw is Aug. 29, and it could be his last appearance before being deemed ready to come off the 15-day injured list.
