Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Alex Call exited Tuesday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds in the top of the seventh inning. Manager Dave Roberts said the trade deadline addition was dealing with lower back pain.

Call pinch-hit for left fielder Michael Conforto in the bottom of the sixth. He hit into a fielder’s choice that resulted in center fielder Andy Pages being thrown out at third base.

A double from shortstop Miguel Rojas sent Call and third baseman Kiké Hernández running home. After Call scored the Dodgers’ fifth run of the night, Los Angeles removed him from the game.

Roberts said he is not concerned with Call’s potential injury and hopes he will be available to play in the series finale on Wednesday.

“He says that he’s played through worse,” Roberts said after the game. “But my hope was to get him in there (Wednesday), so I wanted to get him out of the game. … We’ll see how he kind of responds to treatment, but I don’t think it’s too concerning.”

Call has been healthy all season after tearing his plantar fascia in his left foot last August.

The Dodgers replaced Call with rookie center fielder Justin Dean. Los Angeles signed Dean to a minor league contract in December and invited him as a non-roster player to spring training.

Dean did not make the Opening Day roster but eventually made his MLB debut with the Dodgers on Aug. 8 against the Toronto Blue Jays. Los Angeles had optioned outfielder Esteury Ruiz and designated Luken Baker for assignment in corresponding moves.

Call joined the Dodgers shortly before Dean made his MLB debut. The Washington Nationals traded the 30-year-old for right-handed pitchers Sean Paul Liñan and Eriq Swan at the deadline.

Call has been serving primarily as an outfield depth piece and platoon option against left-handed pitching for LA. The Reds are starting a left-hander on Wednesday.
