The Iowa Cubs were a gremlin to the Las Vegas Aviators (Athletics), 11-9.

Spencer Turnbull lasted just 2.1 innings and got rocked for eight runs on nine hits. He walked four and struck out one.

Porter Hodge tossed two scoreless innings of relief and got the win. Hodge allowed no hits. He did walk two while striking out three.

DH Carlos Pérez hit two home runs tonight, giving him 23 on the season. The first home run came in the third inning with a man on and the second one tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth. Pérez went 2 for 5 with three runs scored.

Shortstop Ben Cowles was 3 for 4 and scored three runs.

Right fielder Parker Chavers went 2 for 3 with a double, a walk and a steal. The double plated two runners in the third inning.

Left fielder Forrest Wall was 2 for 4 with a double and a two-run single in the second inning. Wall scored twice.

Everyone in the I-Cubs lineup had at least one hit.

The Knoxville Smokies were subjugated by the Birmingham Barons (White Sox), 6-2.

Walker Powell turned in a strong start, allowing just one run on four hits over six innings. Powell struck out four and walked no one.

Zac Leigh pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning, but then got in trouble in the eighth and left with the bases loaded and no one out. Mitchell Tyranski came on in relief and allowed all three inherited runners to score and two more of his to score. Leigh got the loss after being charged with three runs on no hits over 1+ innings. All three runs were unearned. Leigh walked one and hit one batter. He struck out one.

Second baseman Pedro Ramirez hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, his eighth on the year. He was 1 for 4.

Left fielder Jordan Nwogu was 2 for 3 with a stolen base.

The South Bend Cubs got fired by the Peoria Chiefs (Cardinals). 10-2.

Kevin Valdez started, gave up four runs in the first inning and took the loss. Valdez was charged with four runs, three earned, on seven hits over three innings. Valdez walked three and struck out one.

Jack Neely pitched one inning of relief in a rehab assignment. He gave up one run on one hit, a solo home run. He hit one batter as well. Neely walked no one and struck out two.

Both South Bend runs came on a two-run home run by Brian Kalmer in the seventh inning. It was his eighth home run on the season. Kalmer was 1 for 4.

Beloit also lost again, so South Bend remains tied with the Sky Carp for the second-half division lead. However, the struggles of these two teams have allowed Quad Cities to get back in the race. The River Bandits are just a game and a half back of Beloit and South Bend now with ten games left to play.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans plucked the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (Astros), 5-3. Hickory lost, so the Pelicans magic number to clinch a second-half title and a playoff berth is now one.

Kevin Camacho threw the first two innings, allowing one run on three hits. Camacho walked three, hit one batter and struck out one. He was pulled after a 40-pitch second inning.

Thomas Mangus pitched the next three innings without allowing a run and was awarded the win. Mangus allowed two hits and a walk while striking out one.

Mathew Peters came on for the ninth and got the save. He issued a two-out walk, but no other baserunners. Peters struck out two.

First baseman Matt Halbach hit a solo home run in the third inning. It was his ninth on the season. Halbach went 2 for 4.

DH Kane Kepley hit his second home run with the bases empty in the seventh. Kepley went 1 for 5.

Left fielder Jose Escobar was 2 for 4 with one run scored.
