Behind scenes with NY Mets and Mariners at MLB Little League Classic

The Little League Classic was a day chock full of events for the Mets and Mariners on Aug. 17, 2025, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

NEW YORK − For a brief moment in the most important juncture of the 2025 season, the Mets and their fans can look forward to their next campaign.

Major League Baseball announced the upcoming 2026 season schedule on Tuesday afternoon. The Mets will open their season on March 26 against the Pirates at Citi Field.

The slate will once again feature six games against the Yankees, along with a unique quirk of seeing the Mets make three West Coast trips in the opening month and a half of the season.

Here are a few of the highlights on next year’s slate for the Mets:

NY Mets Opening Day 2026: March 26 vs. Pirates

The Mets open the 2026 MLB season on Thursday, March 26 at home against Pittsburgh Pirates. Their first home series, which includes a Friday off day for a potential postponement, will continue March 28 and March 29 vs. the Pirates.

California road trippin’: Mets vs Giants, April 2-5

The Mets’ first road games of the season will come on March 30-April 1 when they travel to Busch Stadium for a three-game series with the Cardinals. They will close out a six-game road trip by heading west for four games against the Giants.

The Mets will get all but one of their California trips out of the way by the first week of May with trips to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers (April 13-15) and Anaheim for the Angels (May 1-3).

Farthest, longest road trip: May 1-10

The Mets’ biggest stretch of travel comes in the opening two weeks of May as they face the Angels, Rockies and Diamondbacks for three games each. The Mets get a scheduled off day between Colorado and Arizona on May 7.

Subway Series: Mets vs Yankees, May 15-17

The Mets’ three-game home series against the Yankees will come as part of MLB’s “Rivalry Weekend” in the third weekend in May. The Mets and Yankees split their six games in 2025.

While the Braves are having a down year in 2025, not many expect that downturn to last and those matchups continue to bring the energy. The Mets and Braves will meet for the first time as the back end of a Mets’ six-game homestand over the weekend of June 12-14.

It kicks off a big stretch for the Mets, who play three games on the road in Philadelphia on June 18-21 followed by a three-game weekend series against the Phillies on June 26-28.

See Shohei Ohtani: Mets vs Dodgers, July 24-26

It is always a hot ticket when the Dodgers come to town. After facing off at Citi Field in April this past season, the 2026 matchup will be contested in the heat of the summer a little more than one week after the All-Star break.

It is part of a 10-game homestand, which includes a three-game series with the Braves and four games against the Marlins.

Mets vs Yankees on 9/11 anniversary

The Mets and Yankees will honor the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks when the two New York teams meet at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

The two teams also played an emotional contest on the 20-year anniversary of the tragedy back on Sept. 11, 2021.

Mets’ final home series: Sept. 17-20 vs. Phillies

Think the matchups between the Mets and Phillies are not emotionally-charged enough? Next year’s final matchup between the division foes will come at Citi Field with a week until the season’s conclusion.

Mets’s final series of 2026: Sept. 25-27 at Nationals

For the second straight season, the Mets will close out their 2026 schedule on the road for two series. Before closing at Nationals Park, the Mets will play a three-game series against the Rangers on the road.
