FORMER New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is putting his baseball days behind him.

Teixeira is trading his baseball knowledge for politics as he makes a run for Congress.

On Thursday, the former slugger announced he will run for Congress in his home state of Texas.

“As a lifelong conservative who loves this country, I’m running for Congress to fight for the principles that make Texas and America great,” Teixeira said in his announcement on X.

“It takes teamwork to win – I’m ready to help defend President Trump’s America First agenda, Texas families, and individual liberty.”

Teixeira is 45 years old and will run in Texas’ 21st District, located north of San Antonio.

The seat is currently held by another GOP member, Chip Roy, but he is running for Texas attorney general in 2026.

Teixeira is a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump and promised to “work with President Trump to secure the border, grow the economy, end radical woke indoctrination, promote American energy independence, defend life and the Second Amendment, end forever wars, and strengthen the military.”

“Playing for the Texas Rangers and raising my family in the Lone Star State has been one of the greatest blessings of my life.

“Now, I’m ready to answer the call to serve my country, my state, and the conservative principles that have made Texas the envy of the nation.”

Teixeira was a legendary Yankees player, signing an eight-year, $180 million deal with the team in 2008.

He finished his tenure with the Yankees with 206 home runs and 622 RBI.

Teixeira had a total of 409 homers and 1,298 RBI in his career.

He won the 2009 World Series with the Yankees.

Teixeira was not openly political during his playing career, with just one report from Politico of him hosting a fundraising event for Marco Rubio during his presidential run.

Now, Teixeira is hoping to get to Washington DC himself, and he has plenty of fans supporting him.

“Where do I sign up to help?” one fan said.
