Padres minor league affiliates went 4-1 on Thursday.
Here is our daily recap of games played.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 9-5 in 10 innings vs Tacoma) (70-58 on the season)
Mason McCoy – 3-for-5, Three RBI

Rodolfo Duran – 3-for-5, Two Doubles, Two Runs Scored
Jackson Wolf – 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 4 K (68 pitches – 50 strikes)
The Chihuahuas’ bullpen allowed eight runs in five innings in a 9-5 extra-inning loss. Starting pitcher Jackson Wolf, fresh off his PCL Pitcher of the Week performance, pitched five innings of one-run baseball. Wolf fanned four batters and did not issue a walk, and has allowed only three earned runs in his last 17.2 innings (1.52 ERA). Francis Pena allowed two runs on five hits in 1.2 innings. Sean Reynolds and Kyle Hart combined to toss 1.1 scoreless innings to bridge the game to the ninth inning, with El Paso leading 5-3.
El Paso’s five runs came early, as the team used a four-run second inning to stake its claim to a lead. The Chihuahuas loaded the bases before a single by Mason McCoy scored two runs. Tyler Wade hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 3-1, and McCoy scored on an infield single by Clay Dungan. After a brief rain delay, McCoy and the Chihuahuas got back to business, with a third-inning single by McCoy scoring Duran.
Back to the ninth, where with a two-run lead, Ron Marinaccio entered. Marinaccio walked the leadoff man, and one out later, two singles put two on and a run on the board. A wild pitch and base on balls later, Marinaccio loaded the bases with one out. Ben Williamson grounded to shortstop, but with El Paso playing double play depth, Williamson beat out the throw at first to tie the game. Misael Tamarez entered for the tenth, but was knocked around for three hits and four runs, with all three hits coming off his sinker. El Paso failed to score in the bottom of the inning, sealing a 9-5 loss.

San Antonio Missions (Won 4-1 vs Frisco) (60-63 on the season)
Damon Dues – 3-for-4, Double, RBI
Braedon Karpathios – 1-for-4, Double, Two RBI
Jared Kollar – 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K (82 pitches – 52 strikes)
San Antonio rode strong pitching to a win over the RoughRiders. Jagger Haynes started for the Missions and fired off two scoreless innings on 33 pitches. Haynes struck out one of six batters faced, getting a pickoff as well. Jared Kollar pitched his longest outing of the season in long relief. The Pennsylvania native pitched six innings of one-run baseball against a tough Frisco lineup, striking out two but also generating plenty of lazy fly balls and weak grounders. 13 of 18 outs recorded by Kollar came on ground and fly balls. Harry Gustin pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his first career Double-A save.
How about Jared Kollar?! His season-high six innings led to a second straight Missions win over Frisco, so he is the @FrostBank Player of the Game! pic.twitter.com/8GaCtAMdCw

At the plate, the Missions used a three-run fifth to jump ahead and pave their way to victory. Anthony Vilar and Damon Dues led off the inning with singles, and Braedon Karpathios doubled to score both runners. Devin Ortiz later singled to score Karpathios, extending the Missions’ lead to 3-1. Damon Dues doubled in the eighth to score an insurance run, bringing the lead to 4-1. Romeo Sanabria had a double as part of a two-hit effort, and Marcos Castanon finished with two singles in the win.
Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 3-1 vs Dayton) (55-67 on the season)
Jack Costello – 1-for-4, RBI Double
Kasen Wells – 1-for-4, Double
Isaiah Lowe – 4 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 2 K (62 pitches – 42 strikes)
Isaiah Lowe pitched four innings of three-run baseball for the TinCaps, striking out two. Lowe has notably struggled in the first inning this season, and his struggles continued, as he allowed two runs in the opening inning. Dayton got to Lowe for a third run in the second inning, but Kai Roberts’ throwing out a runner at second halted any chance of the inning snowballing. Lowe was relieved by Sam Whiting, who pitched five shutout innings in relief. Whiting did not allow a hit, walking two and striking out one. After allowing seven runs in his first nine innings this month, Whiting has allowed only one run in his last nine innings. The Fort Wayne lineup did not have much success against Dayton pitching, scoring one run on seven hits. Jack Costello drove in the lone run for the TinCaps on an RBI double, scoring Sean Barnett. Kasen Wells had a double in the loss, and Zach Evans reached base in his fourth straight game. Lamar King Jr had a single and a walk, stealing his third base with Fort Wayne in the process.
Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 10-0 vs Rancho Cucamonga) (54-69 on the season)
Dylan Grego – 2-for-4, Home Run, Two RBI
Kavares Tears – 3-for-5, Home Run, Three RBI
Kannon Kemp – 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K (84 pitches – 53 strikes)
Lake Elsinore brought the thunder on Thursday, scoring ten runs in a shutout win. Kannon Kemp toed the rubber for the Storm and pitched one of his best outings of the season. The right-hander pitched a season-high six innings, tying his season high in strikeouts with seven. In two outings against the Quakes this month, Kemp struck out 14 in 10 innings, allowing only two runs. Jordan Valenzuela worked around three walks to record three strikeouts in two innings, and Igor Gil closed out the shutout with a scoreless ninth.
It’s a Kannon Event.

The offense was the star of the game, as Lake Elsinore rode ten hits to a win. Dylan Grego and Kavares Tears had multi-hit efforts. Coincidentally, both homered in the game as well. Tears singled to open a three-run first inning that saw Grego score on a balk. A groundout by Justin DeCriscio scored Carlos Rodriguez. Yoiber Ocopio’s RBI single that deflected off the posterior (yes, you read that right) of Quakes reliever Jesus Tillero scored a run, and Bradley Frye hit into a run-scoring forceout for the fifth run.

DSL Padres Gold (Won 5-3 vs DSL Athletics) (1-0 in DSL Cup Finals, 5-0 in Postseason)
Jhoan De La Cruz – 2-for-3, RBI Walk
Santiago Contreras – 1-for-2, Go-Ahead RBI Triple
Jesus Castro – 5.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 K
A strong outing from Jesus Castro and late-inning heroics gave the Padres Gold a 1-0 lead in the DSL Cup Finals. Castro pitched 5.1 innings of two-run baseball, striking out two but limiting the opposing offense to four hits. Despite only one 1-2-3 inning, Castro was able to make timely pitches with two outs, showing some moxie and maturity for a young pitcher. Miguel Alvarez allowed one run on three walks in an inning plus of work. Jeferson Villabona earned the win with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief in the eighth and ninth innings.
The Padres Gold struck first on an RBI walk by Eddson Martinez before taking the lead in the third inning. Jhoan De La Cruz drew a bases-loaded walk to score a run, and a sac fly by Abraham Bastidas scored the Padres’ third run. While the Athletics would tie the game in the eighth inning, the Pads snatched the lead right back in the bottom of the eighth. Santiago Contreras tripled to score Dayquer Alfonzo and break the tie. A single by Moises Valdez scored Contreras and scored the Padres’ fifth and final run. With the win, the Padres Gold are one win away from securing the DSL Cup Championship.
