Crunch time has arrived in the MLB playoff races, and the NL Wild Card standings are tightening up.
The San Francisco Giants (66-68) stumbled out of the All-Star break, but have turned things around by winning five-straight games.
Although the Giants have seemingly turned a corner, their chances of playing baseball in October are quickly fading–but there is still time before the NL Wild Card standings become final.
Here’s a current look at those NL Wild Card standings, and a glimpse at what lies ahead for the Giants with 34 regular-season games remaining.
NL Wild Card Standings

What Lies Ahead For SF?
The San Francisco Giants enter the weekend sitting six games behind the free-falling New York Mets in the NL Wild Card standings.
New York has been in a slump over the past month, with a record of 9-14 in its last 23 games. In that time, they’ve seen themselves fall from a comfortable lead in the standings to holding just a four-game lead over the Cincinnati Reds with 28 games to go.
According to Tankathon, the Giants hold the third-easiest remaining strength of schedule in Major League Baseball, while the Mets face the sixth-hardest remaining schedule, which includes games against the Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, and San Diego Padres.
San Francisco has several upcoming series against teams that are out of the postseason picture, like the Orioles and Rockies (two series), meaning the time is now to make a real push in the NL Wild Card standings.
