BALTIMORE (WBFF) — The Orioles are once again teaming up with the Maryland Food Bank to fight hunger across the region, announcing the return of their 38th annual Food & Funds Drive, taking place Sept. 5–7 during the team’s weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Camden Yards.
In partnership with AAA Club Alliance and Giant Food, the drive invites fans to bring non-perishable food items and monetary donations with them to the ballpark.
Volunteers from the Orioles, Maryland Food Bank, AAA, and Giant Food will be stationed outside the gates from opening until the top of the second inning each day to collect contributions.
Giant Food has pledged to match monetary donations up to $10,000.
“Taking impactful action to tackle food insecurity in our local communities is a priority for AAA year-round,” said Amber Zionkowski, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at AAA Club Alliance, via press release. “We welcome the opportunity to join the Orioles and their fans in supporting this important initiative.”
The Maryland Food Bank currently distributes nearly 120,000 meals daily, with 91% of all donations going directly to programs that support Marylanders in need.

High-demand items include canned proteins, rice, pasta, canned fruits and vegetables, and cooking oil.
“With 1 in 3 of our neighbors facing hunger, we appreciate the generosity of fans and of our partners at Giant Food,” said Elise Krikau, Chief of Philanthropy at the Maryland Food Bank, via press release. “For close to 40 years, the Orioles have pitched in to the fight for greater food security for Marylanders across our state.”
On Saturday, September 6, the Orioles will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of Cal Ripken Jr.’s historic record-breaking game, when he surpassed Lou Gehrig’s streak of 2,130 consecutive games.
To honor the milestone, the Orioles and their partners are challenging fans to donate more than 2,131 pounds of food and raise over $2,131 during Saturday’s game.
Kerry Watson, Executive Vice President of Public Affairs for the Orioles, emphasized the team’s ongoing commitment to community support. “The Maryland Food Bank plays a vital role in communities throughout Birdland,” said Watson, via press release. “We look forward to the Food & Funds drive every year because it allows us to work in partnership with our fans to make a difference in the neighborhoods we call home.”
