MLB Picks and Player Props August 29, 2025
Detroit Tigers over 4.5 runs (+100) vs. Kansas City Royals
Seth Lugo is in a major rut, and it doesn’t look like he’s escaping it anytime soon. He’s been a prime regression candidate, as evidenced by his 3.99 ERA and 5.19 xERA. Since mid-July, Lugo has posted a 7.24 ERA with a .399 wOBA against, a 7.05 FIP, and has surrendered 12 of the 27 home runs he’s allowed this season.
This will also mark the fourth time Lugo faces the Tigers—who have crushed him this year. In 14.1 innings against Detroit, he’s allowed 13 runs on 16 hits, including five home runs, giving him an 8.16 ERA and a .393 wOBA.
As it stands, unless he can pull a rabbit out of his hat, Lugo looks poised for another rough outing tonight. That has me backing the Tigers’ team total over at +100.
Cristian Javier under 5.5 strikeouts (-120) vs. Los Angeles Angels
The Angels are usually a great team to target for strikeout props. Tonight’s projected lineup against right-handed pitching has a combined 26.2% strikeout rate, one of the highest on the slate. However, there are a few factors to keep in mind with Javier on the mound.
First, Javier has made three starts this season but has only logged a total of 10 innings. After going five in his season debut against the Red Sox, he’s been limited to just three and two innings in his subsequent outings against the Orioles. As you’d expect with such short appearances, he’s stayed under six strikeouts in all of them.
Second, the Angels are an excellent hitting team against the four-seam fastball, Javier’s primary pitch. Tonight’s projected lineup owns a .366 wOBA and .259 ISO against the pitch this season. Meanwhile, Javier has struggled with his four-seamer, allowing a .407 wOBA to opposing hitters.
If Javier is limited again, it will be difficult for him to reach six strikeouts—even against a lineup with such a high strikeout rate.

Los Angeles Dodgers team total bases over 14.5 (-115) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
Zac Gallen takes the mound for the Diamondbacks tonight, and that’s good news for the Dodgers. When he faced them earlier this season, he gave up four runs on 10 hits over 5.2 innings. Gallen not only allows plenty of contact but also plenty of power. His 26 home runs allowed are already a career-high, with a 1.5 HR/9 rate.
The Dodgers, meanwhile, average the second-most total bases per game at 14.9—trailing only the Yankees. Essentially, they just need to be “average” tonight to go over their team total bases. Given this matchup, I think they’re well-positioned to exceed it.
Good luck with your MLB picks and player props for August 29, 2025!
