The Padres Gold will play the A’s Saturday for the Dominican Summer League title at the Padres training complex.

The A’s defeated the Padres 3–1 Friday to even the best 2-of-3 series at 1–1.

The Padres, who are now 44–18 overall, were led by DH Isaac Ponce (.269), who went 2-for-4 with a RBI. SS Jhoan De La Cruz (.333) was 1-for-4. 2B Jose Verdugo (.292) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.

Starting RHP Raymel Belliard (1.13 earned run average) gave up a run on 4 hits with a strikeout in 5 innings to take the loss. LHP Marco Eluscat (1.69) gave up 2 unearned runs on 2 hits and a walk with 2 strikeouts in 3 innings.

PADRES ON DECK:

Starting LHP Jackson Wolf (5.19), the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for Aug. 18–24, continued his strong work for Triple-A El Paso Thursday night, allowing 1 unearned run on a hit and no walks with four strikeouts in 5 innings.

Starting RHP Kannon Kemp (3–4, 6.06), the Padres’ №28 prospect, gave up 4 hits and 3 walks with 7 strikeouts in 6 scoreless innings to earn the win for Single-A Lake Elsinore. RF Kavares Tears (.227), the Padres’ №17 prospect, was 3-for-5 with a home run and 3 RBIs. CF Ryan Wideman (.236), the Padres’ №13 prospect, was 2-for-3 with 2 walks, a steal and a run.

DH Romeo Sanabria (.260), the Padres’ №20 prospect, was 2-for-5 with a double for Double-A San Antonio. RF Braedon Karpathios (.267), the Padres’ №29 prospect, had a 2-run double in 4 at-bats with a walk. Starting LHP Jagger Haynes (4.26), the Padres’ №10 prospect, gave up a hit with a strikeout in 2 otherwise perfect innings.

Starting RHP Isaiah Lowe (3–12, 5.69), the Padres’ №26 prospect, gave up 3 runs on 8 hits and a walk with 2 strikeouts in 4 innings to suffer the loss for High Single-A Fort Wayne. 1B Lamar King Jr. (.242), the Padres’ №14 prospect, was 1-for-3 with a walk and a steal.

AROUND THE FARM:

TRIPLE-A EL PASO (32–21, 70–58) — Tacoma 9, CHIHUAHUAS 5: SS Mason McCoy (.272) was 3-for-5 with a double, 3 RBIs and a run. C Rodolfo Duran (.294) was 3-for-5 with 2 doubles and 2 runs. LF Tim Locastro (.254) was 2-for-4 with a steal.

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (21–33, 60–63) — Missions 4, FRISCO 1: RHP Jared Kollar (2–7, 5.31) gave up a run on 4 hits and a walk with 2 strikeouts in 6 innings to earn the win. LHP Harry Gustin (0.00) had a K in a perfect inning to earn the save. CF Damon Dues (.303) was 3-for-4 with a double, a RBI and a run. 2B Marcos Castanon (.269) was 2-for-5 with a steal and a run.

HIGH SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (24–33, 55–67) — Dayton 3, TIN CAPS 1: RHP Sam Whiting (4.25) gave up no hits with 2 walks and a strikeout in 5 otherwise perfect innings. LF Jack Costello (.215) had a RBI double in 4 at-bats.

SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (25–32, 54–69) — STORM 10, Rancho Cucamonga 0: 2B Dylan Grego (.238) was 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and 2 runs. RHP Jordan Valenzuela (3.86) allowed a hit and 3 walks with 2 strikeouts in 2 scoreless innings. LHP Igor Gil (3.88) completed the shutout with a K in a perfect IP.

PADRES HISTORY:

Aug. 29, 2001 — Ryan Klesko is 5-for-6 with two doubles and two homers with five RBIs and four runs scored to tie a Padres record with 13 total bases in a single game as the Padres lose 16–14 in St. Louis. The 14 runs is the most ever scored by the Padres in a loss.
