One of the area’s more successful high school baseball coaches is taking a step up in his career.

Bishop Verot coach Casey Scott, who has led the program since 2020, is leaving the Vikings dugout to become the University of Virginia baseball team’s director of operations, the college announced on Aug. 29.

Scott will serve on Cavaliers’ new head coach Chris Pollard’s staff. Virginia is one season removed from playing in the College World Series in 2024, which was the program’s seventh appearance in Omaha.

“We are thrilled to have Casey Scott joining our staff as director of operations here at the University of Virginia. Through his experiences as an assistant and head coach at the college level, Casey has built a tremendous skill set from both a baseball and organizational standpoint,” Pollard said in a release. “Over the last several years, Casey has built Bishop Verot into one of the most respected high school programs in the country.”

Under Scott, Verot made it to back-to-back Final Fours in 2024 and 2025 and posted 114 wins over six seasons under his leadership, along with appearing in national rankings this season.

Scott was the USA Baseball 15U national team manager for the 2025 WBSC U-15 Pan American Championship this summer. Scott also served as the pitching coach for the 15U team in 2023 and 2024.

“I’m incredibly honored and thankful to accept the position of director of operations for University of Virginia Baseball,” Scott said in a release. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a tradition of excellence. I am also excited to be a part of such a historic program and for what the future holds.

“Coach Scott elevated our program to new heights,” Bishop Verot athletic director Greg Coleman said in a statement. “We are extremely proud and honored of what Coach Scott has accomplished at Bishop Verot, and we wish him well and the best as he takes this next step in his career.”

Scott resigned from Bishop Verot on Monday, Aug. 11. Bryan Marotta, a longtime assistant for five seasons under Scott, will assume the reins in his first head coaching job. He’ll return a nucleus of talent, headlined by reigning Southwest Florida Player of the Year Joey Lawson, Braylon Sheffield, Nick Raber, Carter Chalder, Tyler Reeder, and others.

“I’m deeply honored to continue the legacy Coach Scott has built,” Marotta said. “Bishop Verot is a special place, and I look forward to carrying forward the standard of excellence our baseball program is known for, both on and off the field.”
