Milwaukee Brewers fans pay tribute to the late Bob Uecker
The Milwaukee Brewers honored the life of the legendary Bob Uecker on Sunday Aug. 24 at American Family Field.
TORONTO – The Milwaukee Brewers open a brief three-game interleague series against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on Friday night, Aug. 29, in a matchup of the winningest team in the major leagues and the winningest team in the American League.
Milwaukee sends right-hander Freddy Peralta (15-5, 2.68) to the mound to face Toronto right-hander Shane Bieber (1-0, 1.50).
The Brewers reinstated left-hander Rob Zastryzny from the 15-day injured list, adding a fresh arm to the bullpen, and optioned right-hander Easton McGee back to Class AAA Nashville.
Perhaps more important, manager Pat Murphy indicated before the game that outfielder Jackson Chourio – who’s with the team after completing a minor-league rehab stint at Nashville – would be reinstated from the injured list prior to Saturday’s game.
Chourio, who’s been out since Aug. 1 with a right hamstring strain, traveled to Toronto separately from the team and was given a game to acclimate before jumping back into game action.
Asked how he felt beforehand, Chourio said, “Perfect,” with a smile.
Pitchers’ duel through three innings
With the sellout crowd into the proceedings from the opening pitch, both offenses struggled to mount any sort of an attack.
Milwaukee collected a couple singles in the second but a Sal Frelick double-play grounder short-circuited any hopes of cashing in Andrew Vaughn’s leadoff single.
Conversely, Peralta largely sailed through the first two innings before a 10-pitch at-bat by Davis Schneider to open the bottom of the third kicked off what turned out to be a labor-intensive, 34-pitch frame that began with a pair of strikeouts but then was kept alive by George Springer being hit by a pitch and Addison Barger walking.
Peralta escaped the jam with a strikeout of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
