GREEN BAY (WLUK) — A local artist hit it out of the park with the first Milwaukee Brewers mural in Green Bay.

For weeks, artist Andrew Linskens has been working on the team’s latest community mural on the back of the Hurckman Mechanical Industries, Inc. building at 164 North Broadway. The team unveiled the completed mural Thursday, with Linskens signing his name at the bottom.

“This is really the mural district in the city of Green Bay. We have many throughout the community, but Broadway has really taken this on as a core initiative and you couldn’t find a better place, I don’t think, than in the Broadway District to display this amazing work,” said Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich. “This is a beautiful piece for us to have in the city of Green Bay.”

The mural features the iconic Brewers Barrelman fishing on the Fox River in Green Bay with the Leo Frigo bridge in the background.

Linskens explained how the piece’s design came to life.

“One of the very first images that I came up with was that of a family sitting, fishing, listening to the Brewers game on the radio. That was fine, but that’s not really the look that I was going for. I wanted something that was a little bit more immediately recognizable as being a Brewers mural,” he said. “I joined the two together with Barrelman.”

Linskens said he worked 15 hours every day for a month, rain or shine, to complete the mural.

“It’s invigorating. It means a lot and it’s really cool to be part of this during a time when the Brewers are, by all measurable factors, the best team in baseball. So yeah, it’s an honor,” he said.

In a town that has a lot of public art dedicated to the Green Bay Packers, fans say it’s nice to see a little baseball love too. Marti Wronski, the Brewers’ chief operating officer, says this mural is a visual representation of the love Wisconsinites have for their sports teams.

“We are a crazy sports state and bringing those all together, no matter where we are, to honor all the incredible sports year round is very, very special,” Wronski said. “What these murals — and this one in particular means more than anything — is the reach we really have as the Milwaukee Brewers. To the very outskirts of the state and to the fans, the amazing fans we have across the entire state. The acknowledgement of the impact that the Brewers are having, this year and always in the community, is really incredible.”
