The New York Yankees play game three of a four-game series tonight against the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field.

The Bronx Bombers are living up to their name, scoring 10 runs or more in four of their last five games.

Something seems to be in the air for Northeast teams — the New York Mets put up 13 runs on Monday and 19 on Friday, while the Philadelphia Phillies exploded for 19 on Thursday. All three are carrying plenty of offensive firepower into the final stretch of the season, when it matters the most.

The Yankees have now won six straight and climbed to within 2.5 games of the AL East-leading Toronto Blue Jays, who have dropped two in a row, including one this afternoon to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Just a few weeks ago, both New York teams were being counted out, with fans taking to WFAN and social media to call for the firing of Brian Cashman, as they do every few weeks.

Instead, the Yankees are firmly back in the division race, and this series against the league-worst White Sox has given them the perfect opportunity to make up ground.

The Yankees have a great shot at extending their winning streak with rookie Cam Schlittler on the mound tonight. He’s been exceptional, flirting with perfection in a recent outing and throwing 12.2 scoreless innings across his last two starts. With an offense that can’t stop hitting home runs, the Yankees have the perfect balance heading into tonight’s matchup.

A rookie gets the start for the White Sox, too: All-Star Shane Smith, who is 4–7 with a 3.87 ERA. This will be his first career start against the Yankees. He’s coming off a gem against the Kansas City Royals, allowing just one hit and no runs over seven innings.

Prediction

Expect another strong outing from Schlittler against one of the weakest lineups in baseball. The Yankees may not break double digits tonight, but with their rookie starter dealing and bats still hot, they should have more than enough to pull out the win.

Prediction: Yankees 5, White Sox 2
