David Peterson set the wrong tone early, allowing five runs in the first inning and leaving after just two-plus innings, charged with eight runs. That deficit grew to 8-2 before the Mets’ offense roared back. Juan Soto carried the charge with two home runs and three RBI, while Mark Vientos and Francisco Lindor also went deep, helping New York erase the gap and even the game in the sixth inning.
Chris Devenski steadied things with three scoreless innings in relief, but Miami had the final word. In the seventh, Connor Norby’s sacrifice fly off Tyler Rogers pushed the Marlins back ahead, and Edwin DÃaz’s struggles in the ninth widened the margin. Norby again delivered, lacing a two-run double that gave Miami breathing room and left the Mets without another answer.
The loss squandered New York’s chance to build momentum after a strong Friday win and dropped them to 73-63, now 5.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East.
