CINCINNATI (WKRC) – In an era of Major League Baseball where strikeouts are prevalent, the Reds didn’t strike out a single time at the plate in Saturday’s 4-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals to break their MLB record streak for games striking out at least once.
According to Reds statistician Joel Luckhaupt, the last time the Reds didn’t strike out in a game was June 23, 1997 in a 5-0 loss to the Montreal Expos, which was 4,499 regular season games ago. That lineup featured Deion Sanders leading off and current New York Yankees manager Aaron batting fifth. Montreal pitcher Jim Bullinger tossed a complete-game four-hitter and walked only one batter.
The Reds entered Saturday’s game striking out an average of 8.7 times per game, and came just two games after they struck out 19 times in a 5-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday.
