KNOX — Missing the postseason for the first time since 2016, the Clarion-Limestone Lions baseball took a 5-10 record into Wednesday’s home game with Moniteau.
Monday against Keystone, the Lions lost on a walk-off to the Panthers who scored the tying and go-ahead runs on Kord Stewart’s two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh.
The Panthers started their rally with two outs and nobody on after Paul Craig got the first two outs on groundouts. But a single by Isaac Weckerly and walk to Drew Keth brought in Jayden Siwiecki in relief of Craig. A wild pitch moved the runners in scoring position to set up Stewart’s single on a 1-2 pitch from Siwiecki.
Casey Kemmer and Siwiecki both had two hits for the Lions.

WEDNESDAY, May 7
C-L 4, Cranberry 3
At the C-L Sports Complex, Logan Lutz used his arm and his bat to help the Lions win a third straight game.
Lutz worked the first 6 2/3 innings on the mound before reaching the pitch limit with the tying run on third base. Kohen Kemmer came on to get Jake McClosky to line out to first baseman Paul Craig on his third pitch ending the game and earn the save.
Lutz allowed three runs, one earned on five hits. He walked three and struck out 10. Lutz also collected two of the Lions’ six hits including a double. Kemmer added a triple while Aiden Coulson, Kevin Mumford, and Casey Kemmer each added a single. Alex Love and Mumford each drove in a run. One run scored on an error and another via a wild pitch.
“Logan did a really nice job on the mound today,” said C-L manager Colby Himes. “He was throwing strikes and getting ahead of hitters in most cases today. Unfortunately, he couldn’t finish it by reaching the pitch limit, but Kohen came on and did his job to finish it. Logan also set the tone with his bat today as well.”
C-L scored a run in the bottom of the first. Lutz led off with a walk and stole second. He then scored on an error by the shortstop off a ball hit by Jesse Siwiecki for a 1-0 lead after one.
The Lions answered the Berries’ first run with two runs in the bottom of the fourth as Kemmer led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Lucian Sloan walked and stole second. After a ground out which moved Sloan to third and a strikeout, Kevin Mumford singled in Sloan for a 3-1 lead after four innings.
The Lions added an important insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Alex Love’s groundout scored Lutz from third for a 4-1 lead.
“Obviously it was important for us to answer when Cranberry tied the game,” said Himes. “It also turned out to be pretty huge adding that insurance run as well.”
In the sixth inning for Cranberry, Jake McClosky singled and later scored on a single by Lincoln Galla to cut the lead to 4-2.
In the seventh, after a strikeout Alex McIntyre reached on an error. Blake Marchinke singled. Both runners moved up on a passed ball. Cole Findlay hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 4-3 and ending Lutz day on the mound.
Marchinko led Cranberry with two hits. McClosky, Lincoln Galla and Hudson Galla each added one hit.
Hudson Galla suffered the loss allowing four runs, three earned in six innings. He allowed six hits, two walks, and five strikeouts.
