HUTCHINSON — The Delano Athletics pounded out three home runs to post an 8-2 victory over the Nisswa Lightning in the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Class B State Championship Monday, Sept. 1.

Nisswa’s Kody Ruediscili went 3-5 with a double, run, RBI and a stolen base. Jeremiah Piepkorn was 3-5 and Drew Boland and Matt Casperson rounded out Nisswa’s hits. Nate DeChaine drove in a run.

The Lightning built a 2-1 lead through four and a half innings, but a five-run fifth by Delano proved the difference.

Nisswa’s Benjamin Dornseif pitched 4.2 innings. He allowed five runs on five hits and two walks.

Benjamin Thoma pitched 1.1 innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and no walks. He struck out two. Blaine Hardy pitched the final two innings. He allowed one run, a solo homer. He struck out two.

Hardy was awarded the Mike Davison Most Outstanding Pitcher Award as well as a spot on the Class B All-Tournament team with Boland, Piepkorn and DeChaine.

HUTCHINSON — Chris Pederson went 2-4 with two doubles, a run and two RBIs and Nate DeChaine also doubled twice to lead the Nisswa Lightning to a 7-5 victory over the New Ulm Brewers Sunday, Aug. 31, in the Minnesota State Amateur Class B Semifinals.

Nisswa rallied from a 3-1 deficit after two innings with a run in the third, two runs in the fourth and fifth and a run in the sixth inning.

Kody Ruediscilli was 2-5 with two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI from his leadoff spot. Jeremiah Piepkorn was 2-5 with three runs and DeChaine finished with three hits total. Aaron Jenkins finished 2-3 with a walk.

The Lightning used three pitchers. Matt Filippi from the Sobieski Skies pitched 3.2 innings. He allowed three runs on four hits and four walks. He struck out three.

Keaton Lingenfelter went 4.2 innings. He struck out three and allowed eight hits and two walks, which resulted in two runs.

Ben Thoma struck out the last two hitters for the save.

Nisswa 3, Cold Spring 1 (11 innings)

BROWNTON — Jeremiah Piepkorn opened the top of the 11th with a single, followed by a Nate DeChaine home run to lift the Nisswa Lightning to a 3-1 victory over the Cold Spring Springers Saturday, Aug. 30, during the Class B State Quarterfinals.

Piepkorn finished 2-5 with two runs. Also driving him in was Drew Boland, who finished 1-4 with a double and put Nisswa on the board first in the fourth inning. DeChaine finished with two his.

Nisswa’s Chris Peterson also doubled.

Blaine Hardy allowed one run on six hits and no walks. He struck out five over eight innings, but didn’t figure into the decision.

Ben Thoma from the Buckman Billygoats pitched the final three innings. He allowed one walk and one hit. He struck out four to earn the victory.

Phil Bray, a draftee from Isanti, pitched the entire 11 innings for Cold Spring. He struck out nine and allowed nine hits and no walks.
