Cameras caught a New York Mets fan stealing a ball from a senior during a home game against the Miami Marlins, then proceeding to act like a jerk about it.
Last week, a video went viral of a grown man stealing a hat worn by tennis star Kamil Majchrzak that was intended for a young fan at the 2025 US Open. Majchrzak took the time to interact with fans and tried to hand his hat over to a young boy, but the poorly mannered adult fan snatched it for himself and refused to give it to the distraught kid.
The adult was later identified as Polish millionaire Piotr Szczerek, who offered an apology in a statement shared on social media. Per the Associated Press, Majchrzak later met with the boy who had the cap stolen from him and gave him another hat to make up for Szczerek’s selfish act.
Well, it appears that an elderly New York Mets fan experienced his own unfortunate incident of having a unique piece of sports memorabilia snatched away.
A video of two New York Mets fans fighting for a ball during a game against the Marlins has gone viral. The video first surfaced on Friday night, so it presumably happened then in a game the Mets won 19-9.
The full video of the battle for the ball hasn’t been released, but the Mets announcers noted that the younger man stole it from the older fan. At any rate, did he really need to showboat and act like a hooligan the way he did?

The Mets entered the month of August with a 62-47 record and looked like a lock for the postseason. But Juan Soto’s club endured a brutal four-week stretch that included a seven-game losing streak and a series loss to the lowly Washington Nationals.
New York closed out August on a 1-3 run, dropping a home series to the Marlins that dropped them to 73-64 on the year. The Mets started off September on a strong note by defeating the AL-best Detroit Tigers 10-8, but a playoff berth (four games up on the Cincinnati Reds for the final NL wild card spot) is far from a guarantee now.
