Colorado (39-99) opened a three-game MLB series versus San Francisco (69-69) on Monday at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado. The Giants won, 8-2.
Former Vol Chase Dollander (2-12) started for Colorado. Monday marked his 20th start for the Rockies as a rookie in 2025.
Dollander pitched five innings and recorded two strikeouts versus the Giants. He totaled 84 pitches, including 49 strikes, against 22 batters.
The former Vol allowed five hits, six runs (six earned) and three walks. Former Tennessee outfielder Drew Gilbert started in right field for San Francisco and hit a two-run home run off Dollander in the third inning. He went 4-for-4 in the contest and totaled two RBIs and three runs.
Gilbert made his MLB debut on Aug. 8 with the Giants. He was teammates with Dollander at Tennessee in 2022. Gilbert was selected by Houston in the first round (No. 28 overall) of the 2022 MLB draft.
Dollander was selected by Colorado in the first round of the 2023 MLB draft (No. 9 overall). He played for the Vols from 2022-23 after transferring from Georgia Southern, earning 2022 SEC Pitcher of the Year and All-America honors.
A third former Vol also started in Monday’s contest. Jordan Beck started in left field for the Rockies. He went 2-for-4.
