MLB Picks and Player Props September 2, 2025
Los Angeles Angels alternate team total over 4.5 runs (+125) vs. Kansas City Royals
I’m taking an alternate team total for the Angels tonight because there’s value in bumping it up to 4.5 runs against Michael Lorenzen and the Royals bullpen. Lorenzen relies heavily on his sinker these days, throwing it 32% of the time as his primary pitch. The Angels’ lineup matches up well against that pitch type, with tonight’s projected hitters combining for a .365 wOBA against sinkers. At the top of the order, aside from Jo Adell, every hitter owns at least a .376 wOBA versus sinkers.
As for the Royals’ bullpen, it has been subpar at best. They lack anyone who can consistently overpower hitters, and since the second half of the season, they’ve posted the second-lowest K/9 in the league at just 6.3. This feels like a sneaky spot for the Angels’ offense, especially with their standard team total currently set at 3.5.
Tyler Soderstrom 2+ total bases (+110) vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Miles Mikolas has been a pitcher to target lately. His 5.04 ERA nearly mirrors his 5.44 xERA, confirming he’s been every bit as bad as the numbers suggest. While hitters from both sides have found success against him, lefties have done the most damage. They’ve posted a .353 wOBA, hit 15 of the 24 home runs he’s allowed, and carry a 5.18 FIP against him.
Tyler Soderstrom enters this matchup with a .450 wOBA and a .271 ISO against the four-seam fastball, Mikolas’s primary pitch. That pitch hasn’t been effective either, as opponents have tagged it for a .345 wOBA. Given the matchup, I like the Athletics’ chances offensively, and I believe Soderstrom has a strong shot at recording at least two total bases tonight.

Max Fried under 17.5 outs recorded (+115) vs. Houston Astros
Max Fried has struggled to work deep into games lately, even though he’s managed six innings in back-to-back starts. His second half has been rough overall, with a 4.95 ERA and a .329 wOBA allowed. Tonight, he faces a tough matchup against an Astros lineup that excels against left-handed pitching. The projected lineup carries a combined .341 wOBA and .171 ISO versus lefties, with five of nine hitters owning at least a .330 wOBA.
When Fried faced Houston last month, he lasted just five innings, giving up four runs with only three strikeouts. A similar outing feels likely here, which is why I’m targeting under 17.5 outs recorded for Fried.
