Troy, N.Y. — Playoff baseball returns to the (518) Wednesday night. For the second straight year, the Tri-City ValleyCats have punched their ticket into the Frontier League postseason, this year doing it in style.
A club record 62 wins and undoubtably the hottest team in the league, the ‘Cats finished the second half of the regular season with a 32-9 record, earning a Wild Card Round, best-of-three series against the Sussex County Miners.
It’s been a historic season but this group believes that the job’s not finished.
We talked earlier this year about how we have some unfinished business. Having lost that playoff game last year, there’s a mindset around the clubhouse that just getting to the playoffs wasn’t the job. The job is to win the whole thing. -Dylan Broderick (Outfielder, Tri-City ValleyCats)I don’t know if any game is critical until it’s the elimination game and that’s the way we’ll approach it. Four our fanbase, we’d love to get a win here in the postseason and get off on the right foot. There’s no doubt that every win you get is one step closer to where you want to be. -Greg Tagert (Manager, Tri-city ValleyCats)
The regular season series was split right down the middle with three wins a piece.
First pitch from the game one at the Joe on Wednesday night is set for 6:30 p.m. Because the Miners won the East division, they have home field advantage in this series. Game two will be Friday night and a winner take all game three, if necessary, is slated for Saturday, Both at Sussex County.
