HOUSTON – At the very least, this was a bad look for Astros‘ starter Framber Valdez.

Two pitches after a Trent Grisham grand slam on Tuesday night, Valdez and catcher Cesar Salazar became crossed up on a pitch that struck Salazar in the chest protector.

Right before Grisham’s homer to left, Salazar waved toward Valdez, trying in vain to get the lefty’s attention as Valdez continued his delivery – resulting in the grand slam.

After the Yankees’ 7-1 victory at Daikin Park, Valdez seemed to blame it on miscommunication.

Per MLB.com, Salazar called for a curveball to Grisham via the PitchCom devise, but Valdez wanted to throw a sinker (which he did) that ultimately sailed over the left field wall.

Both Valdez and Salazar said the cross-ups, despite the PitchCom devise, were mistakes; Valdez said through an interpreter, according to MLB.com, that he took “full responsibility” and apologized to his catcher.
